Bodybuilding sport has its roots very much in India; it can be traced back to 11th century India where stone dumbbell weights, known as Nals, were lifted. Local Gyms (Akhadas) were common place in India during this period and by the 16th century weight-training was India's national pastime.
Sheru Classic: The overwhelming support to Sheru classic 2011 has once again proved the love of this sport in India. A curtain raiser speech was given at the press conference by Honorable Gen Secretary Mr. Sanjay More of IBBF.
Year 2003: Over 12,000 people had witnessed Mr. Universe Championship at the CCI stadium, Mumbai. Over 75 nations with more than 300 athletes participated for the ultimate prize of Mr. Universe, and Mr. El Shahat Mabrouk from Egypt was adjudged Mr. Universe 2003.
Year 2011: “Thanks to the support of IFBB and IBBF this mega event is happening in India for the 2nd time”. 3-7 November 2011, the big boys will be back to participate in the annual IFBB Men’s Amateur Bodybuilding Championship 2011, Mr. Universe.
This time it will be 400 bodybuilders from 90 countries flexing their muscles. An enthusiastic crowd of 15000 plus is expected to rock the stadium of Andheri Sports complex. Ten Sports will be covering it live for millions of viewers across the globe.
Indian Body Building & Fitness Federation (IBBF) along with International Federation of Body Building & Fitness (IFBB) will be staging this prestigious event which will be co-organized and managed by UTEX Exhibitions & Marketing Services Pvt. Ltd. (UTEX India)
A special welcome party and a Farewell party will be hosted with many IFBB officials, bodybuilders and Bollywood celebrities. “It will be a beginning of a new era for a strong and Healthy India” claims Mr. Ganpat Shelar CEO of UTEX India.
